The median home price in San Francisco is $895,000 and renters paying on average of $2400 per month and not considering what you get for that amount. A recent example a one bedroom apartment in San Francisco goes for over $3300 per month. According to California's Realtors Association less than 20% of The Bay Area residents can afford a home with rent numbers not too far behind.
The influence of it's neighbor Silicon Valley has had a big influence on the cost of living in the Bay Area. Google, Twitter, and Facebook draw some of the top talent in Technology along with some of the highest salaries and stock options to follow. So what about those that don't work at these tech giants or high level stock trading in the Financial District?
For those of you that have had an opportunity to experience the great city of San Francisco with it's amazing restaurants, cool weather, tourist attractions such as Alcatraz, or the views for the Golden Gate, you know why many can be enticed to live their. Of course we can't forget the Golden State Warriors who are the world champs.
So can you have both an affordable place to live and the beauty and attractions that the Bay Area offers? I believe the answer lies within in it's neighbor community which just so happens to be the Capital of California. Sacramento has emerged as the answer for many.
With a median home price of $315,000 and rent hovering around $1000 per month has convinced many to make the 90 mile move. A revival of the urban Sacramento life, anchored by the new Golden 1 Center, has attracted many young people to the opportunity of actually owning a home in an active city. Hundreds of miles of bike trails, waterfront views with the Sacramento River, Folsom Lake, River Cats Baseball, and the many amazing restaurants has given Sacramento a competitive edge. Of course living in Sacramento I can't leave out the Sacramento Kings. We may not yet be world champs but we might have a shot at the playoffs this year.
"Home is where your heart is" so you can have both in financial security and a place for which you enjoy living. The best part is San Francisco is only a short drive away.
